Spurious Interference occurs whilst recording

Ver 3.77:

Whilst recording music from online sources using WIN10 desktop and internet there is a electronic scratchy like sound implanted for 1 to 3 secs then the interference vanishes. This repeats at irregular intervals, perhaps several minutes part.

I tried a few filters as a quick fix but no success. Help to surpress or eliminate welcomed.

Yes, this is the chief pitfall of recording from the audio playing on the PC is that it picks up ALL audio, such as notifications etc, which you don’t want. I can’t make out what that sound might be.

I have already tried turning OFF Windows Alarm. I tried setting an Alarm at a set time + 5 mins, and waiting for a notification. The Notification arrived whilst Audacity was recording, but no alarm-sound was recorded by Audacity. Only the Windows Clock popup appeared.

It is also extremely taxing on the system. The computer is essentially playing audio and recording what it’s playing simultaneously and Audacity only uses 1 core.

My guess is that playing around with the Host (MME vs WASAPI) and/or sample rate might help. Some possibly related threads and articles:

Oh yeah: does this also happen when recording something using the microphone? Or only when recording the desktop audio?
