Multiple label tracks export

When multiple labels tracks are present, I’ve found that File>Export Other>Export Labels… will produce a text file with each label track appearing sequentially.

At times I’d like to export just one label track – just as we can with audio tracks. Is there a way?

By the way, I find labels one of the most powerful features of Audacity – I recently started using them to line up subtitles to the audio from a video and because of the excellent zoom in/out features of audacity, I find this method of subtitle editing better than any of the video editing tools I’ve used. Audacity is awesome.

There’s a plug-in HERE that exports labels and has a few more features than Audacity’s built-in label exporter.

It does not support exporting a single label track, but it does support including the track number, which makes it much easier to see which labels belong to which tracks.

Did you select one of the label clips before extracting?

yes, I tried that. It didn’t help

Steve,

Thanks. I did download it and added it to the folder where my other .ny files are stored. But even though I tried restarting Audacity, it still didn’t work, always giving me a %4f error when I ran it.

But don’t worry, I don’t think I’d use this anyway. Since I have to go extract from the label.txt file, it’s really not difficult to find where one ends and the next begins. I rarely have more than 2 or at most 3 label tracks.

Thanks anyway

So a workaround fior you would be:

  1. Delete the label tracks you don’t want to export
  2. Export Labels
  3. enough Undos to restore the label tracks deleted in Step 1

And see this still open issue that I logged three and a half years ago:

Peter.

Thanks for this work around – I came to that myself and it does work well. Little scary to rely on that, especially after hours working on the labels!

For belt & braces add a step zero:

  1. File > Save Project > Backup Project
