unable to export multiple stems in audacity 4 beta 2. I spent over 4 hours recording only to find out I can only export as “export full project audio” “export selected audio” or “export audio in loop region”… please help I’ve reached deadline for a song submission and this completely screwed me over…
Audacity 4 is NOT a production environment , it is a Beta test bed - you should not be using it for production work.
Muse (the owners of Audacity) provide it so that experienced users of Audacity can test it out and report any issues that they find.

I understand that but it would have been great to know that a simple function like exporting multiple tracks is not available. with all the other added new features available in this patch you would never assume that that simple function would be absent. it’s infuriating.

I agree that “beta” versions are usually “feature complete” (or nearly so), but currently there’s quite a few features missing from Audacity 4.0 beta. It might be better to think of the current Audacity 4 as an “alpha” version.

I think Muse did publish a little list of stuff that they knew that was not in AU4 that was in AU3 nbd earlier, but it was not necessarily complete and exhaustive.
The problem for you is that the database structure has changed in AU4 because it dues some new things that AU3 and earlier never did - so there is no backwards compatibility i.e a project made in AU4 cannot be opened in AU3.
So here’s a little workaround for you (assuming that your project is complete and ready for export).

first, and most importantly, make a backup copy of your project (just in case things go wrong}

Open the project and delete everything except the Track/stem/song that you want to export

make the Export
4.1) Either use multiple Ctrl-Z to get back to the full project - OR
4.2) Exit the project making absolutely sure NOT to save the changes when that is offered
- Repeat for each Track/stem/song in turn

As a constructive criticism I would change the website and musehub to advertise that it’s in alpha/beta not ready etc. It’s not fun to spend a day on something and then having this experience to having to roll back to 3.

Also, there are over 1600 issues open on Github, although I can’t figure out how to determine which are for Audacity 4, although I suspect most of them are.
It seems like Export Multiple is still not a feature as of the official 4.0 release. Export Multiple is integral to my workflow, so I won’t be able to use Audacity 4 until it is added.

Last time I asked the answer was: All issues that are not labelled as “AU3 bug”.
There are currently 493 open issues marked as “AU3 bug”, which leaves 1141 Audacity 4 open issues.
Stable does not mean complete.

I think on something that we can agree is that is confusing 
Indeed. I have been working on Soundscaper, a webport of Audacity 4. It’s entirely vibecoded and may or may not be stable, but it does have stem export, mix and render and pretty much all features from Audacity 3 which have not made it into Audacity 4.
Multiple export by label is crashing for me and also reordering the tracks
what browser and format did you use?
I use Export Multiple (by label) extensively, hope it will reappear

Just ran into the same problem, exporting by labels is not possible. After Audacity 4 was announced I downloaded it and set up labels to split a large file into separate ones only to find that this is not possible any more.
What worked for me (only if you have an audio file and want to split it): export the labels as a text file, open the audio in Audacity 3.7.9 (on macOS they are both installed) - the current 3 version and there import the labels, and export from that version
I used Firefox and the default export. The app dissappeared and a white square with gray text showed up
Same problem here. I was digitizing an LP and after labeling the tracks could not export as multiple files. I had to export the full LP’s audio and open it in V3, where I re-labeled the tracks and exported. V4 is not ready for this and the lack of multiple file export should be highlighted as a feature not yet implemented to save users the trouble.
