What’s the last version you used that worked right? I don’t think The Latest Update is particularly valuable if it doesn’t do the job. That’s the Producer, again.

When I was in actual Hollywood Production, we would go through extensive testing and inspection before we would change any of our software. The Studio doesn’t want to hear “Sorry we can’t finish your expensive movie. We got a bad software update.”

Don’t leave your current working version before you troll the forum looking for Hindenburg Events. “I quickly updated to the new version and the explosion took out my garage.”

If you do roll back, remember to Tools > Reset Configuration. There’s nothing like a bad version poisoning everything that comes after.

Thanks for posting back. When the Dark Roast Italiano grabs hold, I’ll dig and see if I can figure out what broke. It is my first published Macro, so it’s not like I have years of experience.

I think I got it cranked around so I get the same results you do. I was afraid the Macro was just going to crash and burn. No. It still works, it just gives the wrong values. …??..

I think I can trace that back to changes in the tools—and maybe even fix it.

I tried to install 3.6.1 Universal on my Mac. Nope. Wrong one. My senior Mac takes 3.6.1 x86.

Turns out if I apply Effect > Loudness Normalization… From the manual effects menu instead of the Macro, it works fine. So there’s something magic about the Macro coding or the way it’s being interpreted.

Also, the error in volume is almost exactly double, which can point to a stereo to mono conversion error.

Koz, I may have missed this. Did you update the macro to the latest Audacity version?

I did. There is now a 36Audiobook-Mastering-Macro.txt.

As near as I can tell, it runs reliably in Audacity 3.6.0 and 3.6.1. Oddly, through a quirk in programming, it also runs in 3.4.2 and 2.4.2.

Any minute I’m going to remember where my copy is…

It’s all coming back. It won’t run in Audacity 2.4.2 because it doesn’t like the Comment line.

Are you going to do that for a particular reason? I would not upgrade if you have an Audacity that works for you. There is a rumor that a stable patch release 3.6.2 is on the way.

As before, Mastering will guarantee ACX Audiobook RMS and Peak. If you recorded in a quiet, echo-free room, you may be done.

Burn the WAV Edit Master and the submission MP3.

I don’t know if you’ve been following the drama, but I recorded the forum test clip on an iPhone on my desk. Lossless Voice Memo.

The clip passes ACX-Check right out of the gate. I applied the 6, 6, 6 noise reduction anyway because I’m obsessive.

Thanks, Koz. I was planning to upgrade to be current. I’ll wait now since everything works well in the current environment.
