Haven’t used Audacity in several years. It used to be a simple, fast audio editor.
Switched from Pr Pro to DaVinci a few years ago, which has a reasonable audio editor in it. Needed an editor to cut a standalone audio clip so downloaded the latest version of Audacity.
The program took several minutes before it even started to open the file, then another several minutes to open the file. It’s a fairly large file, >300MB. Still, the program was incredibly slow.
I’m working on a Windows 11 Pro machine with a 12 core AMD Ryzen 9 3900 processor, 64GB of RAM and an EVGA Nu Audio Pro sound card.
If you are indeed running Audacity 4, switch back to 3.7.9, v4 just isn’t feature-complete. I’ve seen files up to 15GB so 300MB isn’t too bad.
Do you need multi-track audio? If so try a proper DAW like Reaper or Waveform Free. If not try Ocenaudio.
I am running v4. I’ll try switching to the previous version and see what happens. Thanks for that insight.
Multi-track, for me, would be needed if I’m editing a film. DaVinci Resolve is decent enough for that. If I needed something more robust, I could look to something like Reaper. I’m a bit familiar with it. Audition is good but it’s Adobe and I’m moving away from Adobe as much as possible. This instance was just a need to cut a clip into segments to get the files under 300MB which is the limit for Word to transcribe.
