Since updating the waveforms aren’t changing size when I use the envelope tool so if the envelope tool is not selected I cannot see the changes in volume in the clip. That makes it really difficult to use. Is this a bug or is there something new in using the envelope tool that I’m missing?
There is this regression bug that has already been fixed for the upcoming 3.6.2 release:

### Bug description
When an Envelope is applied to a clip that starts after z… ero, the affect on the waveform is incorrectly offset.
### Steps to reproduce
1. Generate a 10 second tone
2. Apply a non-destructive fade-in to the first 2 seconds using the Envelope tool.
3. Slide the clip to the right so that it starts at time = 5 seconds
### Expected behavior
The fade is expected to remain in the same place relative to the clip.
### Actual behavior
The fade appears to have stretched to the right, even though the Envelope control points are still in the correct places relative to the clip.

Confirmed on Linux.
This is a serious bug that also affects existing projects created in previous versions.

That’s great news, Thank You Peter!
As a workaround you can use Adjustable Fade instead of the envelope tool.
The problem is that Adjustable Fade is a destructive effect, whereas an Envelope is real-time. You can change an Envelope at any time.
“Destructive effect”? It can be undone, until you find the right settings.
Yes, it can be undone. But what if you make a bunch of other changes in other tracks and then find the fade is not quite right?
3.6.2 should be out soon (we hope) and this will be fixed.
