VST Plugins

Hey Guys;

Just upgraded to the latest Version of Audacity, 2.1.2.0, and have a question. Is there anyway to permanently delete Effects plugins that I don’t ever use or need? The majority of the included plugins are useless to me and I would like to get them off the menu. I have deleted them manually from the plugin file but they still show up in the menu. And I’ve disabled them in the Add/Remove drop down menu in Audacity but they still show up, even if they are disabled. The same holds true for other plugins from separate sources that I have added. Even though I have completely deleted them from all folders where they were installed, they still show up on the menu.

I use very few effects, basically about five at the most and the rest are just clutter. If there is a way to permanently delete these and them not show up on the menu, I would appreciate knowing what it is.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has any helpful advise and I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving.

2.1.0 is well out of date now, the latest version is 2.1.2 which you can download from here: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

Andyes you can do exactly what you are asking in this latest version. The top item in the Effect Menu (and Generate or Analyze) is Add/Remove Plug-ins which you can use to trim the list (it’s what I do to streamline the effects list to avoid it having to scroll).
See this page in the Manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/manage_effects_generators_and_analyzers.html

Yes, 2.1.2.0 (if not a typo) is the 2.1.2 current release. You can see the final “0” if you hover over the icon for “audacity.exe” in your file manager.

Make sure you click OK in the Plug-in Manager. Cancel or escaping the dialogue will not save the changes.

Yes this is a little buggy and is on our bug tracker. After deleting the plugins you must at least open Effect > Add/Remove Plug-ins… . After that, and after also restarting Audacity, the items will be gone from the menus.

Built-in Audacity effects will always appear as “Disabled” in Plug-in Manager, even if you have deleted the files.
