I have had the same exact problem, and have contacted Audacity and Crosley, and there is no way to lower the volume that I have found. It is totally useless as a USB turntable, because all my discs redline non stop and are totally distorted. If anyone has ever found a solution, please let us know. thanks.
I just upgraded to 2.2.1 and this issue still continues. This Crosley turntable is totally useless as a USB device if I can’t control the volume. It is still at full volume, redlining the meters, and totally distorted. Are you ever going to check into this issue? I am sure there are thousands of these turntables around, and I don’t know of any other software that works with the table, unless you suggest an alternative.
Indeed there are - and some of them have gain controls to manage the signal level. I started out with an ION ITT-USB device and it did have again control. I did junk it because it gave lots of wow&flutter due to an ultra light turntable.
My solution was to use my existing hi-fi turntable and used an external pre-amp and an extenal USB sound card (both of which have gain controls) - much better results with this.
