Hello folks,
I’ve upgraded to Audacity 3.7.3 and when when I try to play a track, or section of a track, it consistently takes just about 5 seconds to begin playing after hitting the play button. You don’t realize how often you hit the play button until you have 5-s timeouts every time you do it. These are mp3 files that I created with audacity, and are less than 30 s long. I don’t think its a computer issue- I’ve got an 11th Gen I9 @2.5ghz and 16gigabites of ram running Windows 11, and I didn’t have this issue with prior versions. Any ideas as to what might be causing this issue and/or how to resolve it?
Best,
Byron
Which has 8 cores: Audacity can only use one of them.
Task manager shows audacity using about 0.5% during the delay, then it kicks up to about 1.2% when playing.
What is the buffer size set to?
It appears to be the default “Buffer Length” of 100 ms and “Latency Compensation” of -130 ms.
Then it doesn’t sound like a buffer overrun or underrun situation. Either can be equally bad.
If the problem remains when you revert back to the previous version of Audacity, it might be a Windows update that is interfering with the sound drivers. Like the infamous “audio enhancement” setting.
Does not stall playback.
If you have a realtime VST plugin engaged, that can add to Audcaity3’s innate sluggishness.
I believe you may be right regarding it being a windows issue. I’ll try rolling back and see- but I am noticing some startup lag on other soundfile playing apps.
