Recorded conversation adjustment.

I have some recorded conversions between two people that I want to adjust, Not Alter in any way.
I 'm using Audacity 2.4.2 on a Windows 10 machine.

The issue is this:
One person is hard of hearing and therefore very quiet and the other is having to shout all the time. I want to try and make the quiet voice louder and the load voice quieter, basically make both similar levels.

Sorry if the terminology I’m using isn’t quite right, this isn’t my area of expertise. I am experienced in IT but no idea about audio so please just treat me like the idiot I am.

I’ve been trying to adjust these files for ages but getting nowhere, probably 'cause I don’t know what I’m doing, hence the reason for reaching out to the experts here.

Hope you can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

LevelSpeech2.ny” plug-in for Audcaity,
or the stand-alone software Levelator

And I use the older Chris’s Compressor.

I change the first setting, Compress ratio, from the default 0.5 to the stiffer 0.77.

Guys, that Level Speech did the trick without any messing about.

I’ve been at this for weeks getting nowhere and you’ve fixed it with one tip /reply, brilliant.

I really appreciate your help.

Kind regards and stay safe.

After levelling the esses may be too loud. The cure is a de-esser, e.g. “desibilator”.
