When listening, if the play head would re-locate to where I stop listening, yet leave a lingering reference to where it once was, just prior to listening, that would be a big help.
Make it an option in preferences or settings, turn on or off. Another option is to move the waveform and keep the playhead in the middle. Again, a playhead behavior settings option.
This is already available in Audacity and has been for a long time. It used to be referred to as Pinned Playhead, but Mise changed the nomenclature a while back.
Just right-click on the Timeline to get its context menu and check on “Continuous scrolling”.
