Is there a specific procedure to use, have been looking through the Internet but nothing helps.
When you save an Audacity project as <project_name> it creates a number of things
a top level master project file called <project_name>.aup
a folder at the same filing level called <project_name>_data
and within the folder a sub-folder structure with lots of little .au files - segments of the recording (mainly audio clips - but a couple of them are graphics files)

you re-open a project with Audacity you should always open the <project_name>.aup top level file. This tells Audacity how to thread together all the little .au files. It is deliberately designed this way so that Audacity doesn’t have to open and work with a single humungously large file, which would hamper performance. You should not be attempting to open or manipulate any individual .au files.
When you have finished editing your Audacity project you can Export it from Audacity as a WAV file or MP3 file depending what sound quality you wish to achieve. WAV files are around ten times larger than the equivalent MP3 files but are uncompressed and thus the audio quality is higher.

So it sounds as though someone has sent you the .aup file and all the folder with all the little .au files. IF it is not a multi-track project it may be better to get them to send you a WAV file that they can export from Audacity.

Have received one single file (Audacity Project File (.aup) ) via email, have saved it right clicked on it to open.So I just have one single file on my personal folder, nothing more. Do I still need to ask for a WAV file that they have to export from Audacity ?

the best way is to get them to send you a WAV file - which you can then Open in Audacity or Import into and Audacity project.
Otherwise the sender will need to send you the project-named folder with all the little .au sound-clip files in it. This is the harder waya s Audacity projects can be sensitive to being moved and rely on the directory pathway being the same on both machines - so often they can break when transferred this way unless you really know what you are doing. It is often possible to edit the .aup file with a text editor to correct this.

Avec Audacity, deux approches sont possibles : 1/ Le format de “travail” dédié aux projets 2/ Le format d’export. 1/ Un projet Audacity est composé d’un fichier projet, portant l’extension “.aup” (Audacity Projet),
et d’un dossier de données de projet, se terminant en “_data”, qui lui-même contient des fichiers .au.
Ils sont à placer obligatoirement dans le même dossier.
Un fichier .aup (utilisé uniquement pour les projets Audacity) ne contient pas de données audio,
mais uniquement des informations sur les modifications et traitements apportées au fichier audio initial.
Il ne peut être importé et doit être ouvert.
Les fichiers .au dans le dossier _data contiennent du son brut, non utilisables dans Audacity, sans le fichier projet correspondant (.aup).
2/ Le format d’export.
Ce type de fichier se suffit à lui même, il peut être exporté et lu facilement, y compris sur d’autres machines,
pour peu qu’elles soit dotées d’un logiciel approprié.
Si dans un projet Audacity, vous ne disposez que du fichier .aup, aucun espoir de lecture.
Demandez à votre correspondant de vous fournir le dossier associé, ou un fichier au format d’export (AIFF, Wav, MP3, etc).
