Nyquist Prompt is it a virus?

Please help me in removing this prompt. I didn’t know that it will behave like a virus. I did everything to remove this prompt even again installed audacity but still that prompt is there, I am trying to delete it but its giving error. I downloaded the prompt from Steve post in the audacity forum.

Nyquist Prompt is a legitimate feature of Audacity

I am not into this argument whether its legal or illegal. i want to remove it as i also just found all the downloaded audios and videos’ in my computer are also effected with this audacity thing. I changed tremble and base yesterday in an audio file as i was learning to enhance recorded voice quality through audacity but the entire voice quality of my lap top is badly effected plus this nar thing is badly into the audacity I deleted and installed audacity twice but still this nar is there. Kindly someone help me to get rid of it.

Hi, Steve here.

You did not download “Nyquist Prompt” from me. You may have downloaded a “Nyquist script” from me, but the “Nyquist Prompt” is a tool that is built into all versions of Audacity.

Perhaps you could describe the problem that you are experiencing in more detail so that we can understand what the problem is, and how to help you. Please include in your description, a link to whatever it was that you downloaded from me.

I would also appreciate it if you refrained from unfounded accusations against me of distributing viruses.

When did I say You distributed viruses? But yes I downloaded the prompt from audacity forum and that post was yours. Now the problem is I want to delete but when something badly sticks and wont get deleted by any means even after un installing and re installing audacity multiple times then don’t you think my fear is justified?

Audacity is not capable of doing that, but Windows “audio enhancements” are.

No you didn’t download “the prompt”. This is the “Nyquist Prompt”: Nyquist Prompt - Audacity Manual
It is a standard part of Audacity. It cannot be downloaded or installed separately. I don’t know what you downloaded from me, because you have not told us, but it was not the “Nyquist Prompt”.

If you want help, you will need to tell us the details of the problem, including telling us what you actually installed, and other relevant details. To begin, tell us what you downloaded, and describe clearly what the problem is.

I have downloaded exactly this

Just tell me how can I delete this from audacity that’s it.

Just delete the file. That’s all.

I have told multiple times that its not being deleted . I have uninstalled and re installed audacity three times but that code is still there and there is no way out to delete that. And all the voice of my lap top is totally distorted due to that. After applying this prompt i was trying to change reverb and echo etc of my audio sample. And now from every video and audio a weird kind of echo type thing coming along with original audio.

The code is still where exactly? What is the exact file path to the file?
How exactly are you trying to delete it, and what happens, step by step?

That “subliminal-rft.ny” code is a Nyquist plug-in. When installed, it appears in Audacity’s “Effect” menu as “Subliminal…”.

To use the effect, it has to be applied to selected audio. If you don’t use the effect, it does nothing.

Uninstalling Audacity does not uninstall anything other than Audacity itself. Any additional plug-ins that you may have installed are not uninstalled when you uninstall Audacity. This is normal behaviour for audio programs.

There are a number of reasons why that is happening, but the presence of the “subliminal-rft.ny” plug-in is not one of them.

I assume you have administration privileges and you can delete other files from Program Files?

It’s in the Audacity plug-ins folder, right?

When you delete Audacity does the Audacity folder disappear? If not, try deleting it manually, or just try deleting the Plug-ins folder.

Then re-install Audacity.

…I don’t have that plug-in on my computer. That subliminal plug-in is not included with the Audacity installation. (Audacity does come with some other .ny plugins.)

.ny files are simple text files. They are only interpreted by Audacity. They don’t run without Audacity and they don’t run automatically.

Capture
I tried deleting the downloaded files first. Then I selected all the code and tried deleting. The above error message came every time.

That error is caused by attempting to run invalid code in the Nyquist Prompt effect.
Your posts here are not really making sense, so I’m backing away from this topic.

Total time waste. Why you asked screen shots and every detail then. First you said "you didn’t download anything from me. When I showed you then you asked different different questions I provided every answer.
I am amazed that in an authentic and reliable software like Audacity, I just pasted a prompt by clicking effects tab. And then I was unable to delete that few words from that area . And in the entire forum no one could solve problem. I could only uninstall the software now.

It’s not clear to me if you WANT to use Nyquist…

If you don’t need Nyquist, maybe try oceanaudio (free) or GoldWave ($60 for lifetime license).

I think, I know, what you mean. Every time, you open the promt, there’s automatically text in the textbox, right? I assume, the plugin isn’t working correctly, or you tried, running the empty textbox. It seems like Audacity stores the last successfully running Nyquist program and keeps the code in the prompt’s textbox, if opened again. Is that, what you mean?

Yes. And even though I uninstalled audacity 2 times but still the code is there, when I try to delete it it is deleted and even get saved but when I hit apply then again the code comes and syntax kind of error appears and again I see that code in the box.

What happened after you deleted the downloaded file (i.e., subliminal-rft.ny)? Deleting the file (while Audacity is not running) should remove it from Audacity’s Effect menu the next time you start Audacity.

Edit: Also check your AppData\Roaming\Audacity\Plug-Ins folder for another copy of subliminal-rft.ny. I believe Audacity copies Nyquist plug-ins to that location when you install them with the Nyquist Plugin Installer in Audacity.

No, I just checked that plugin, but there was no copy. Anyway, I finally uninstalled Audacity once again. Initially, I was concerned and asked out of fear, “Is the Nyquist prompt a virus?” I suspected it might be, as its behavior—being undeletable—is typical of a virus. But now, I am 100% certain that the code I downloaded from that post is definitely some kind of virus, if not an actual virus. The person who created that code didn’t include the proper code to delete it. I researched further, and yes, some people have been selling paid prompts and have warned that you should never download a Nyquist prompt from a forum, as the code can take over your entire computer. This is exactly what happened to my laptop.
