Once again, they’re not Nyquist prompts; they’re Nyquist scripts. The Nyquist prompt is a tool inside Audacity where you can run Nyquist scripts (ones written by you or others). An Audacity plug-in is also written as a special type of Nyquist script. You can install a plug-in (as it sounds like you did with subliminal-rft.ny) with the Nyquist Plugin Installer. If that’s the case then it’ll be copied to the AppData\Roaming\Audacity\Plug-Ins folder.
I’d like to see where you’ve read that “the code can take over your entire computer” since it’s absolutely not true. Nyquist scripts run only when you run them yourself, and they run only inside Audacity. They cannot access anything in your computer except Audacity’s sound tracks and label tracks. They cannot touch files or change your sound settings or anything like that.
And you didn’t answer my question:
Also, as DVDdoug mentioned, Nyquist scripts are simple text files. You can delete them through your file browser. They’re not “undeletable” in any way. Can you find that file through your file browser? What happens if you delete it? (Edit to add: I noticed steve asked the same sort of questions. Why are you so afraid to answer questions?)
Edit to add: Where did you get Audacity from? There’s a German web site (the domain ends in “.de”) that has fake or malicious versions (malware) of Audacity. If that’s where you got it then it could be the problem. The official site, and the only place where you should download Audacity from, is https://www.audacityteam.org/ (or Audacity download latest version for older versions).
I’m amazed at how easily you said you’re afraid to answer Steve when it’s actually the other way around. He’s the one wasting my time by asking different questions, and I’ve not only answered each one multiple times but also provided screenshots. I installed Audacity from the official website. You can all relax now—I’ve already completely uninstalled it. I know what Nyquist did to my laptop. If you’re still interested in the topic, you can search YouTube for “how to make subliminals,” and you’ll find videos where people have made their own Nyquist scripts because of the viruses in the free Nyquist ones.
That’s how a help forum is supposed to work. We ask clarifying questions to help you solve your issue, and you answer those questions. We can’t read your mind about what’s going on with your particular issue, after all. Sometimes a thread goes back and forth like this before an issue can be resolved.
I must have missed your posts where you mentioned the full path of the file that you tried to delete and what happens when you tried to delete it.
Like you, those people probably also heard from someone else (who heard from someone else who heard from someone else…) that Audacity Nyquist scripts can have viruses. Rumor mills are not known for being sources of truth. Also, I couldn’t find any other mention online (besides this forum thread) saying a Nyquist script can contain a virus. So it’s up to you to back up your claims. You know what they say, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”.
