No sound when input USB is connected [SOLVED]

I am endeavoring to copy my analogue vinyl into digital format but there is no sound when I have my audio input usb connected to my computer and am therefore unable to monitor the recording!

I am using Audacity 2.1.2 on a 4GB laptop running Windows 10, 64-bit.

I am using a suitably grounded hi-fi record deck through a Citronic AC-1USB audio capture device, all properly connected, with preferences in Audacity set to Playback device: Speakers(USB AUDIO CODEC) and Recording device: Line (USB AUDIO CODEC) and Channels: 2(Stereo) and with the ‘Software playthrough’ box checked.

Everything else is working correctly, I can see the system is recording from the on screen display and when finished and the input usb is disconnected I can hear the playback of my recording. I am hoping someone can advise.

Have you actually got speakers connected to the RCA outputs of the Citronic? If not, set the Playback Device to the computer speakers or whatever speakers you are actually using.

The same applies to Windows too: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_playback.html#usb.

Thanks for all the detail in your post.

Eureka! As per suggestion, I connected the Citronic outputs to a UEBoom speaker and suddenly I have sound! ‘simples’ if you know how, but I am a bit of a layman and hence had been struggling with this for a few days.

Gale, I am ever so grateful for your help with this issue (now all I have to do is learn how to use Audacity properly and find a few months to sit and copy around 200 LP’s, cos it’s in ‘real time’ innit!)

In which case I would start with this set of Tutorials fro the Audacity Manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/tutorial_copying_tapes_lps_or_minidiscs_to_cd.html

particularly this one: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recording_with_usb_turntables.html

and this workflow: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sample_workflow_for_lp_digitization.html

And when I was conerting my LPs I found Brian Davies’ ClickRepair software invaluable. It costs a little but if you have a lot of LPs, as you have, it is well worth considering. See this sticky thread: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/click-pop-removal-clickrepair-software/1933/1
