Multiple Audacity Versions in Windows

What’s the magic of installing multiple different Audacity versions in Windows?

What are you trying to do and why? We’re coming in half way through the movie, to use one of your expressions.

If you are trying to run two instances of Audacity on Windows, you can’t, even if both instances have their own Portable Settings folder, unless it’s 1.0.x with current Audacity.

Just install the different versions in different folders:

Note that you won’t be able to add more than one of the multiple Audacity versions to the right-click context menu “Open with” unless you rename one of the other audacity.exe’s.

But I have no idea what the goal is. I see the user is reluctant to let go of 2.1.1, but why? There is no problem using 2.1.3 to open AUP files created in 2.1.1.

I see the user is reluctant to let go of 2.1.1, but why?

That’s against the possibility of the upgrade weirdly damaging one or more of their valuable projects.

But we won’t have to worry about that any more in v2.2.0, right?

Koz

If the problem with AUP files being empty after save is anything to do with the AUTOSAVE file being changed to a binary file instead of XML (which is not impossible), then 2.1.1 will have the same issue. 2.1.0 is the final version to have an XML AUTOSAVE file.
