Move Audacity to new computer

I’ve acquired a new(er) computer and want to move all my Audacity settings to the new machine. Is there a good way to do that?

Thanks for any help!

Dan Fisher

The settingsare stored in a folder called audacity in the >Appdata>Roaming folder in your user directory.

On Windows the full pathname is: C:\Users\\Appdata\Roaming\audacity

First you will need to quit Audacity. then copy this folder from your old machine to your new one.

If you use FFmpeg don’t forget to install it.

Thanks, both of you.

The settings are stored in a folder called audacity in the >Appdata>Roaming folder in your user directory.

Does that hold true on the update to 3.0.0?

Thanks again,

Dan

Yes.

Note that the AppData folder is hidden. If you have not already done so, you may need to set File Manager to show hidden files. There is a box to check on the View tab.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, guys. I finally got around to doing this. I guess it worked. And, I usually keep my hidden folders visible. I’ve always been that way. (I also show filename extensions.)

Thanks again,

Dan

Always a good plan I think (it’s on my Excel ToDo list for when I get a new PC)

I have no idea why Microsoft (and Apple) thinks it’s a good thing to hide folders an extensions :unamused:
