Keeping Volume Changes on Mixed Tracks

Windows 10, Audacity 2.2.2
I’m a newbie so maybe this is a dumb question. I am trying to mix short music and/or sound tracks into my narration. I an adjust the music tracks to the appropriate sound level, then save them with those adjustments as a new file. When I put those saved files back into audacity with those adjusted volumes, they will play together with the corrected sound levels on separate tracks with the other tracks added. However, when I mix and render those tracks into a single new track, all my volume adjustments are gone. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you for your help.

I think that when you mix down several tracks into one (either mono or stereo), the mixing is done by summarizing all waveforms, that increases the level of the resulting waveform.

Can someone confirm this ?

That’s absolutely what I’m seraching at this time.

[EDIT] found my answer in Mixing Audio Tracks - Audacity Manual “Mixing Levels” chapter.

Yes. “Mixing” literally “adds together” the tracks.

I’m jolly glad the Manual proves useful :sunglasses:

Peter.

Audacity’s manual is one of the best RTFM 2.0 experience I’ve been through ! !

You can be proud of it !
