I am running Audacity 3.6.4 on my MacBook Pro running macOS Sequoia (15.0.1) with a Shure MV7 mic attached and have observed two reoccurring issues:
- iTunes purchased tracks cannot be inserted (see my previous post: Purchased AAC audio file not accepted)
- Audacity loosing audio devices setup and unable to play back or record when playing back recorded tracks: for this issue, I have sent the crash reports
The iTunes tracks are recently purchased and I drag them from my iTunes library to an open Audacity project which worked fine before. The audio devices crash also seemed to be fixed in earlier releases.
In general I am very pleased with the product which I use to record music podcasts.
I’m a Windows guy but you may need to update FFmpeg for the current version of Audacity.
FFmpeg hasn’t been updated that recently but at some point there was an Audacity update and the old version didn’t work anymore.
The Audacity version of FFmpeg is now 5.0.0 and after installing on Windows I see F(59.16.100)…
If your iTunes music is very old, it still may have some DRM. However, Apple dropped DRM very long ago.
If you want to edit or use DRM protected iTunes files, the easiest way to remove the DRM is to burn a CD[*] and then re-import the song.
[*] You could take a re-writeable CD for this.
Thanks for your feedback. The error occurs with recent purchases for which I have a quick workaround to remove any protection by converting the song to AAC.
Thanks for the feedback. My FFmpeg version currently is F(55.33.100), after I installed the latest available download file.
