If editing metadata only, does MP3 lose quality?

I haven’t tried this yet (but haven’t found the answer from searching the forum or online manual, so I’m guessing the answer is “No”).

My question is, if I edit the metadata only of an MP3 file in Audacity, will it lose quality?

Another way to ask this is: Is there a way to edit the metadata only of an MP3 file in Audacity without loss of quality?

I’m using Ubuntu 18.04.3, LTS, Bionic Beaver.

and Audacity 2.2.1

I don’t remember how I installed Audacity, but likely with apt-get.

I looked here:

https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/metadata_editor.html

but didn’t see the answer.

Thank you.

Yes it will lose quality - because when you Export as MP3 from Audacity it will re-compress the files and thus you will get additional compression damage.

There are several metadata editors round that will do this for you without changing the audio.

Most Linux distros have “EasyTAG” available in the software repository.

Thank you! I used EasyTag.
