How to change tempo to the one of an existing recording without affecting it

Hello
I picked up a song on youtube and recorded with my micro into audacity
Now i want to adjust the tempo to match the song, so that i can use snap feature and tempo bars to visualize the beats of the song.
Just changing the tempo does not work, since it changes the tempo of the song, which I dont want of course
Looks pretty simple, but I spent quite a lot of time wo succeding …
Any help appreciated

What??? Those statements are contradictory.

If you are trying to match the tempo of two different recordings, that can be tedious. And some songs are recorded without a click-track so the tempo can vary throughout the song. Or the tempo can intentionally vary through the song.

You can also get artifacts (side effects) changing the temp without also changing the pitch. If you can live with a pitch shift, Change Speed is “simpler” and “cleaner”.

Thank you for your answer

OK, I’ll try to be clearer : Yes, I want to keep the tempo of the song, but I want Audacity tempo bars to match the actual beats of the song.
Does it make more sense ?
