How can I show file format (e.g. 32-bit float) on main window?

Hey folks

I’d like to be able to see the file format e.g. 32-bit float on the main window without digging around to find it, just as, while the sound is playing, you can see Actual rate: 44100 in the bottom left.

Is there a way of doing this?

Thanks

When you open a file it gets converted to 32-bit floating point (unless you change the default settings) and it doesn’t “remember” the original format.

Hi @DVDdoug

Thanks for the reply.

That’s interesting though I’d rather be able to see the setting to be completely sure.

I use a template which I must have made at 24-bit, because on checking, it was still 24-bit.

I’ve changed my template but I’d still like to be able to see at a glance.

Not possible?

It used to be possible in older versions of Audacity - but Muse changed that in the name of simplifying the Track Control Panel.

It should be converted to 32-bit float by default, but watch out for bugs. OGG files are (incorrectly) imported as 16-bit.

converted it to 32-bit float

From the track’s drop down menu, select “Format” and look to see what is selected.

Note that to change the format, you must not change it here unless you want the length and pitch to change. To only change the format, use “Tracks menu > Resample”.

  1. I want to be able to see it on the display, which apparently has been removed.
  2. I changed the bit setting and it was fine. Maybe that behaviour has changed too.

Thanks for the answer, but not what I’m asking.
