"Failed to read from a file in C" when opening project

Good. Make sure you backup the file. I have to delete it off of the server.

Hi,
I have the same issue - I’m using version 3.1.2 on a Win10 PC and a file that was recorded this afternoon now fails to read. Here’s a link to the zipped file - I’d greatly appreciate it if it be recovered.

Thanks
Thanks

OK, I’ll take a look-see…

Later…

I have PM’d you a link to a recovered file. - We got lucky!

OMG - Thank You so very much - you are a life saver!!!

Hey Jademan. Nice to know that I’m not the only one experiencing this problem. Would you be able to share your solution? Or is the only way to upload the file to you.
Thanks for your time.

Yes - the Audacity development team was hoping that mangled projects would go away with the new unified database file structure. Unfortunately projects still get damaged. And generally, each damaged file is a little different.

Each file takes a little elbow grease and typically a unique solution. I have some special custom tools I have developed that assist with this process. When I find something that could be done programmatically or with a simple procedure, I try to share either with the developers or on this forum.

Generally, yes. Unfortunately, these files are, by definition, all damaged in some way, and while I have been lucky in some cases, frequently enough the converse is true. :frowning:

I’ll make you the same offer I make to everyone else. If you care to zip up your .aup3 file (I don’t do .aup), and upload it to a public file sharing service, then post (or PM me) a link, I’ll take a look at it. No promises.

Hello,

I’m having the same problem. I am using version 3.1.2 on Win10.

Here is a link to the zipped file - I would be very grateful if it were recovered.

Thanks a lot

I’m having the same problem. I am using version 3.1.2 on Win10.

Was this a live recording and the first time you tried to save it?

Roughly how long is the show?

Did this fail happen in the middle of editing?

Are you using some other people’s sound or music files?

It would be good to find common symptoms to help the developers sort this out.

Koz

You can have an event that’s the purist gold if you edit your show and it does it again.

And you can make it happen whenever you want.

And we can duplicate the failure here.

I don’t know if a rescue posting has ever happened twice. Jademan can comment on that.

I can invent a Conspiracy Theory that a good way to prevent this error in the future is to have it happen to you once.

Wouldn’t that be a stunner?

Koz

:frowning: Unfortunately, problems that may look the same are not always the same. In your particular case, recovery looks doubtful. I cannot look any further right now, but I will double check things tomorrow. :frowning:

 OK, so I made a little bit of progress. I have been able to recover your falas channel - which I believe is the one you need. I have sent you a link via PM.

Does this help?

Hi @jademan,

I have been struggling with them same exact issue. Would you be able to try and help?

No need to struggle anymore. There is a new audacity-tools package that can actually recover/rescue many/most of these “broken” projects. See the first post in this thread: Corrupt or Otherwise Broken Audacity Project Recovery
