Extremely slow/laggy performance

UPDATE: I have resolved my situation!

  1. I found out how to update it to version 3.7.7 ; I have no idea if this is related to the success, but following that…
  2. …it looked like it was only one .aup3 file in specific having laggy issues following updating; beforehand, I hadn’t tested how other files had been behaving since the lagginess came around. But as I had went to a separate .aup3 file I had recorded the same day, it performed completely fine! Not a bit of lag! After that, I converted the recording that had been giving me trouble into an .mp3 and then into an .aup3 file and it was buttery smooth!

Yesterday evening , I noticed Audacity began performing extremely slow & laggy, despite me not changing anything at all.

It now takes about 2 or 3 seconds to register a click on the audio and if I decide to delete even a fraction of a second, it will take upwards of 15 seconds. It performs like this regardless if I have multiple other things running or another else at all.

I am using Audacity 3.7.5 (when updating the program through MuseHub , this was the version it updated to) on a PC with 16 GB of RAM and an AMD Ryzen 5 5600GT with Radeon Graphic as the processor.

So far, just update to the latest version I could.

As I stated in the post, I also tried closing all other programs open on my PC to see if that would improve performance, which it did not.

I’m on Windows 11 version 25H2 (sorry if this isn’t the right info, I’m quite tech illiterate); it says that I’m up to date regarding updates. According to my brief research, it seems like drivers should be updated whenever a Windows update happens. And I have shut down my PC since it last updated and since I began having these issues as well.

I am on desktop PC.

I will also head over to the MuseHub forums.

Thanks for being willing to assist so far and if you have anything else you can share, please do!

Has 6 cores, Audacity is only using one of them, hence slow/laggy …

Let's talk about the Audacity rewrite: One core isn't the game anymore
