Every time I open a new project (without shutting down Audacity completely - "Quit") it comes up with an error message

One more thing…

Every time I open a new project (without first shutting down Audacity completely (“Quit”)) it comes up with this error message - see attached
So I have to 'Quit" audacity each time I want to open a new project.

I have gotten so used to shutting down and reopening completely each time I open a project that I had forgotten this was even happening

Note - this has happened with every version of audacity that I had installed.

(I am reporting all errors so that you can see all the issues as they may be linked)…

To reduce confusion I created a separate thread for this issue. Steve, can you help change the name of the topic ?

@jademan - I fixed that, but you should be able to edit the titles of posts yourself :wink: :nerd:

Just click on the pencil …

Peter

okay thanks

This is what the error message shows (hope this takes you directly to the page I am seeing):

What sound device are you recording from?
– Bill

If this issue is still occurring, please reply to Billw58’s query.

Hi Bill,

I use an SD card in a Podtrack P4 to record, which I then transfer to my macbook to edit in audacity

So this is not preventing you from recording. Good.

Make sure that Audacity has access to the “microphone”. See https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/no-recording-level/51788/1

Set the Audacity recording device to the internal microphone.

What happens now?

– Bil

Hi Bill,

Audacity already has access to the microphone - I haven’t changed anything here (see photo)

And the recording device is already pre-set to ‘Macbook Air Microphone’

Is there anything else I should check?

Ah, sorry, I didn’t notice that the dialog says “playback device”. What playback device are you using? If you do Transport > Rescan Audio Devices after getting the error message, does that help?
– Bill

Hi Bill,

I will try that now.

Just wanted to add first that when I select the drop down under problem details, this is what it says:
{
“timestamp”: 1671114192,
“event_id”: “04d06f3a9ff7401595ed6ef7610d2dac”,

}
},

“value”: “Error opening sound device.\nTry changing the audio host, playback device and the project sample rate.”,

}
]
}
}

Hi Bill,

so I just did the “Transport > Rescan Audio Devices” after getting the error message nd it worked!!

I am using my beats flex bluetooth headphones, which I switch between multiple devices throughout the day - could that be the issue?

Probably.

Audacity does not play well with bluetooth devices.

okay thank you for your help! :smiley:
