Just recently I revamped my computer and when I re-installed Audacity and I experienced a small problem. What happens is that when I want to record something I get an msgbox saying:
“Error opening sound device. Please check recording device settings and the project sample rate”
I have no idea what his means or where to look to fix it, I have been through all the menus and the manual without success.
I did not have this problem before I revamped
Help would be appreciated
This can happen sometimes if Windows sees some incompatibility between your recording and playback devices. Here are some things to try:
- Tools > Reset Configuraion
- Rebooting PC
- Turn off Software Playthrough and Overdub (Edit > Preferences > Recording)
- Change Stereo to Mono
- Switch between MME and Microsoft WASAPI
- Check that the project, recording, and playback sample rates are all the same (e.g, 44,100): The project rate is in the lower left-hand corner of the Audacity screen. For the others, run mmsys.cpl, then click on the playback or recording tab, select your device, then properties, then the Advanced tab and the Default rate.

changed mmcfg.sys to mmsys.cpl
