Dead link (wayback-recoverable) in manual

I don’t know if this is the best way to report this (please let me know if there’s a better one I should use), but in the very unlikely event that it’s still actually a useful link to provide, this link in the manual:

On Mac Trackpads you can use two fingers to scroll horizontally, or pinch/expand to zoom the waveform in or out at the pointer position, without using a modifier key. Horizontal scrolling and pinch/expand should also work on most touchpads on Windows machines, but you may need to apply this horizontal scrolling modification or to install special drivers for your touchpad.

…has long ago become a casualty of forum shutdown.

However, it can be resurrected via this Wayback Machine capture: TwoFingerScroll v1.0.7 update! (two finger scrolling done right! + more) | TabletPCReview.com - Tablet PC Reviews, Discussion and News (https://web.archive.org/web/20180224121655/http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/threads/twofingerscroll-v1-0-7-update-two-finger-scrolling-done-right-more.38405/). The MediaFire download link also still works, when using the Archive.org capture.

…Just deleting the link (and the second half of the sentence it’s found in) instead, on the grounds that a software driver mod from 2011 is unlikely to work today even if it is something that a user might need, is also very much an option.

@ferdnyc

this is a perfectly good place as I am not only a Forum Elf, but the one remaining editor of the Audacity Manual - and many thanks for reporting this dead link. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I followed your latter suggestion and just removed entirely the Widows part of the final para. on that page. However this is only for the alpha manual for the next 3.7.x release )if there ever is on). But not it is almost certain that Muse will deprecate the Manual when they eventually release Audacity 4 - and rely instead of their Support site.

Excellent, thanks @waxcylinder.

I suppose, though whether that invalidates the manual sort of depends on how good their documentation is. If it sucks (which is not outside the realm of possibility), I’m certainly not above spiriting away all of the deprecated manual content and resurrecting it as a community-run supplemental documentation site! :innocent: #DoneItBeforeWillDoItAgain
