Crash while recording! please help

Hello! I’ve been a casual user of audacity for smaller projects over the years, but this is my first time trying to undertake a whole podcast episode. I’d been recording with only three lines left in the outline, when one of my bluetooth headphones died, and when I checked on the program it was frozen and unresponsive. All I get is the rbbod – I can’t change the window’s size or access anything in the tool bar, and of course nothing is clickable.

Because I had been in the process of recording, I never got a chance to save the project. I obviously can retrack the episode, but I’d rather not if there’s another option.

Is there a way to get it going just long enough to save my files? Or, if I force quit and shut down, will the project be recoverable upon reopen – even though it’s unsaved?

Worth noting that I did download the newest version just before sitting down to work, and the first few test clips I made came out fine.

Thank you!

Yes, this is worth trying. On relaunch you should be offered Recovery of the project.

Thank you! This did work. I went ahead and chose to force quit the app and shut down my computer for a bit, and was able to successfully recover, save, and export the project so we can finish it! :slight_smile:

@notatrainconductor

That’s good to know, thanks for the report - glad you got the project back.

I did a lot of QA testing some years ago when the Recovery utility was much-improved by one of the developers - otherwise I wouldn’t have been confident in suggesting this solution to you.
