If I try and open an mpeg4 file via the file explorer open/with, audacity crashes.
The crash report window pops up, and when I try and send the crash report, that crashes.
This has persisted for the past few years.
Will this be fixed?
Testing on W10 with 3.7.3
I cannot replicate this , using Open With on a .m4a file launches Audacity and imports the file proprly with no crash.

It shouldn’t crash but you’ll need to install FFmpeg_5.0.0_for_Audacity_on_Windows_x86_64.exe before you can open MP4/M4A/AAC files. (And it has to be the special Audacity version of FFmpeg.)
You can also try converting the file to WAV or FLAC with Kabuu Audio Converter. If that works you can open the WAV/FLAC file.
Can you play the file in Windows Media Player or another application?
What about if you open another file with a different format and export it as M4A (AAC)? Does that work? Can you open that new M4A/AAC file?
You may also want to check the format with MediaInfoOnline. The file could have the wrong extension, or an MP4 audio/video file may have a different audio format. (MP4 is a “container” format.)
