hi steve
will beta work 4 me?i installed it but still the preview on the cllick remover doesnt tell me anything…maybe im doing it wrongs.lets see i select all to highlight the song…its a dark gray.this enables the different options including the click
removal…ok i move the slider and hit the preview button and theres no differance in the sound…did i do it wrong?

lenny

  1. The preview button only provides a preview of the first couple of seconds (you can set the number of seconds preview in Preferences)
  2. You may need to adjust the settings of the effect for it to detect and remove the clicks.
  3. Do not use Click Removal as a “global effect” - just select a fairly small area that contains the clicks that you wish to remove. If you apply apply the effect to a large area of music it will probably make false detections and remove bits of the music that it shouldn’t.
  4. It is often easier to just apply the effect and then use “Undo” (Ctrl+Z) if it’s not right rather than using the preview feature. This will allow you to “see” as well as hear if there is any change.
  5. The click removal effect works quite well on certain types of click, but it is not magic. Some types of click can not be removed with this tool. One example of a type of click that is notoriously difficult to remove are clicks caused by large scratches on CDs.
  6. It may be possible to remove large clicks that cannot be removed with this tool by using the Repair tool. To use the repair tool, zoom in very close on the click and select the area that contains the click. The selection must be no more than 128 samples. Then select “Repair” from the effects menu.

hi
i looked in the effects option there is no repair tool listed…is it in the bata one?/

lenny

Yes.
The 1.3 version has very many improvements over the old 1.2.6 version. All of the regular forum writers now recommend the 1.3 version.

hi steve
i went back to the earlier audicity(not beta)and it seems to more suited 4 me being a newbie…ok reguarding the click remover
i tried highlighting on the click itself hit click remover let it preview than hit process…i didnt see that it was doing anything…
i didnt see the message saying "removing pops and crackle"and then you see that bar in blue going across.nothing happens.it
only processes with that message saying “removing pops and crackle” when i hightlight the whole song.is it actually doing anything when i see this “removing pops and crackle”?i think beta is a little better at this but at this point this earlier version
is better 4 me.

ps…i think im doing it right with this early audicity its just this click remover thingy.

Although 1.3 has some extra features, in a lot of ways it is actually easier to use than the 1.2 version. I really do recommend that you try it. You can have both versions installed but can only run one at a time. Audacity 1.3 can open 1.2 projects, but Audacity 1.2 can not open 1.3 projects.

To use the click remover, zoom in quite close so that you can see the clicks (thin spikes) and select a small area of clicks. Apply the Click remover effect (not preview) and you should see the spikes disappear, or at least shrink. If the spikes appear to be unchanged, use Ctrl+Z to “Undo” (or select “Undo” from the edit menu) and reapply Click removal with more aggressive (more sensitive) settings.

ok ill try the click remover based on your instructions…thanks…
