I’m hoping someone can help me! I know this topic has been previously discussed, but I can’t figure out what to do after reading the last post. When I went to reopen my Audacity project, it tells me that it cannot find the project data folder and that it can’t open up my project! I did move my project to my desktop to make it easier to find the file so I could send it to someone — but now it appears to be all messed up. Is this simply a case of having to put the project data folder back somewhere? I hope someone can help! I’m freaking out…
It was Tin Can Town Audio Story.aup. A friend of mine tells me that if I place the .aup file along with the data back in its original place, the problem will be fixed. But I actually don’t know where I dragged it from originally. Any ideas about what to do?

You need to search for the folder that is called “Tin Can Town Audio Story_data”.
In the top right of any finder window there is a text-based input for searching.
The AUP file and the _DATA folder have to be in the same location or folder to open the Project. They won’t go looking for each other. Another common mistake is to rename one or the other. Can’t do that. The project name is burned into the AUP file and if everything doesn’t match, the project won’t open.
The AUP file is just a text file. It doesn’t have any music or sound in it. It’s job is to tell Audacity what to do with all that stuff in the _DATA folder. If you inspect sizes, the AUP file is a lot smaller than the _DATA folder.
