hi i just read the page but i couldnt understand anything
"The AUP file and the _DATA folder have to be in the same location or folder to open the Project. They won’t go looking for each other. Another common mistake is to rename one or the other. Can’t do that. The project name is burned into the AUP file and if everything doesn’t match, the project won’t open.
The AUP file is just a text file. It doesn’t have any music or sound in it. It’s job is to tell Audacity what to do with all that stuff in the _DATA folder. If you inspect sizes, the AUP file is a lot smaller than the _DATA folder."
the text that i higlighted apparatnley i have to do something along that lines but i dont understand what can you help please
When you save an Audacity project, it creates a FILE that has a file extension “.aup”, and a FOLDER that has the same name as the project, with “_data” added to the end.
Example:
If you save a project and name it “my-project”, then Audacity will create a project file called “my-project.aup”, and a folder called “my-project_data”.
Both the FILE and the FOLDER are essential parts of the project.
If you try to open a project file and the project “_data” folder is missing, then Audacity will not be able to open the project and will complain that the project data folder is missing.
so what should i do i already saved the file i worked hard on it i dont want to start another recording
Do you have the project file AND the project folder?
i have the project file saved in my document but not the project folder
What happened to the project folder? Are you able to recover it?
i dont think i understand i have the project that i did on audacity and i saved it in documents buit its refusing to open i dont any other
files or folders my freind
What is the name of the project file?
Do you understand what a “folder” is?
the project that i recorded and saved is named audio for youtube video
Right click on the file and select “Properties” and make a note of the exact and complete name of the file. What is the name of the file?
i think i understand a section of what am supposed to do my files name is xalimos.aup
but i dont have the other one
am afriad i never seen a folder apart from the file i saved called xalimo, aup which is the project i made
on audacity anything else i dont know my freind
Unfortunately, without the project data folder there is no project. The project data folder contains the audio data, whereas the “project file” just has instructions that tell Audacity what to do with the data.
In other words:
“xalimo.aup” is the file that tells Audacity what to do, and
“xalimo_data” was the folder that contained the audio data.
If you can’t recover the “xalimo_data” folder, then there is nothing more you can do because you don’t have the audio that belongs in the project.
To avoid having this problem again, be sure to not delete, move, rename, or manually modify either the project file or the project data folders outside of Audacity.
If you need to move or rename a project, then the safe way to do it is to open the project in Audacity, then use:
“File menu > Save Project > Save Project As…”
and save a new copy of the project in the required location with the name that you want.
now i understand steve do you mean the entire audacity app file itslef so yes
i have that in my documents as well
is that what you meant my freind
I have no idea what you mean. I think my description in the previous posts has been as clear as I can make it.
The official documentation about Audacity Projects and how to manage them safely is here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audacity_projects.html
you might have misunderstood what i said
but anyways i found the project file
sorry steve you were right i found the folder
so what should i do with the file my freind
