Can't open aup3 files on mac

When I try to open my aup3 files on my mac in Audacity 3.7.x, I get message: “Cannot import AUP3 format. Use File > Open instead.” EVEN THOUGH I AM USING FILE > OPEN!!!

Bug in Audacity 3.7.1

This bug is somewhere in between 3.7.1 and 3.6.4. I have uninstalled all other versions of Audacity as well as uninstalled 3.7.1, downloaded a fresh copy, and re-installed it. Here are the bug details: I have project files that were originally made with 3.6.4. I have attempted to pull them up by double clicking on the file location. I tried reinstalling Audacity but I get the same error. How do I (a) get rid of all vestiges of 3.7x and (b) find 3.6?

Rename “audacity.cfg” file in settings folder to, say, “audacity-old.cfg”.
( renaming rather than deleting allows you to revert back to the previous state),

If you actually made projects in 3.7.x they are not compatible with previous versions of Audacity.
