This bug is somewhere in between 3.7.1 and 3.6.4.
I have uninstalled all other versions of Audacity as well as uninstalled 3.7.1, downloaded a fresh copy, and re-installed it.
Here are the bug details:
- I have project files that were originally made with 3.6.4.
- I have attempted to pull them up by double clicking on the file location. I immediately get a message that says, " This project was created with a newer version of Audacity. You will need to upgrade to open it." (even though I only have 3.7.1 installed which is the current version).
- If I pull up the file using FILE > RECENT FILES > then the same issue happens.
- If I pull up the file using FILE > OPEN > then I can (thankfully) open the file.
- I have saved the file multiple times in 3.7.1 but the bug persists through the save.
- After the bug activates, when I click on HELP > ABOUT AUDACITY > The “about” window pops up and says that my version is 3.6.4 (even though it is actually 3.7.1)
- When I close Audacity and reopen it, it shows the correct version.
- When I send the report for the error, I can see the data in the report shows my version as 3.6.4
- Additionally (and this is good one…), I created (and saved) a new test project using 3.7.1. I attempted to open it and a “Crash Recovery” window popped up showing an error that the project had not been properly saved and that it needs to recover that project. BUT… when I opt for the recovery I receive a new window message, “The project was not saved properly that last time Audacity ran”. The project will not open and again the “about” window suddenly showed my version as 3.6.4.
Any ideas on what may be happening here?
