Can't find the EQ XML to TXT Converter tool

The manual says:

So I open the Plugin Manager to enable the tool, but I don’t see it.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

@macus

Muse removed this tool in version 3.5.0 of Audacity (I think they believed the time for the need for this tool was long past by that stage - and I am inclined to agree with them).

So all you need to do is install an older version of Audacity (3.4.2 or earlier) and then you will get this tool.

I would suggest installing it in a folder different from the normal Audacity folder that the app normally gets installed in, say Audacity 3-4-2.

You can get older Audacity versions from here: Old Audacity versions download

Update:

I note that the only links to that converter tool page in the manual are from the two EQ effects (there is no longer a listing on the Effects page, I removed that when 3.5.0 was in preparation).

I will look at either:
a) removing those links, or
b) adding a note that the tool requires an older Audacity version.

I am tending towards a) at the moment, but I’m undecided really.

was about to put an editornote on the page for that tool to deal with this later - but realized that it was just as easy to implement option b) above.

So now the alpha manual for the upcoming 3.6.0 version of Audacity reads like this:

I can’t update the manual for the current 3.5.1 release, sorry.

Thanks for the “nudge” regarding this @macus :sunglasses:

If you just need to run the tool once, then running it from within Audacity 3.4.2 is probably fine.

If you would like that tool to be available in the current and future version of Audacity, follow these steps.

  1. Download and install Audacity 3.4.2 into a separate folder in your Applications folder, or on the Desktop or anywhere else; you’re not going to run it.
  2. Right-click on the Audacity 3.4.2 application and choose “Show Package Contents”
  3. Open the “plug-ins” folder.
  4. Right click on the file eq-xml-to-txt-converter.ny
  5. Select “Copy” from the context menu
  6. Click on the “Go” menu (in the Finder), select “Go To Folder”, and in the dialog enter “~/Library/Application Support/audacity/Plug-Ins”
  7. Click on the Edit menu and select “Paste Item”

Start Audacity 3.5.1 and use the Plug-in Manager to enable the tool.
