Cannot record from audio cassette to PC

Hi, I am trying to record from an Envivo audio cassette player to PC. I’ve tried numerous versions of Audacity without success. My Lenovo PC has an audio/mic combi jack on the front. The sound plays through the player’s headphones, but I can get NO sound at all onto the PC.

What am I doing wrong?

You need to use the USB lead that comes with the player to connect to the PC - NOT the “audio/mic combi jack on the front”.

And see this tutorial in the Audacity Manual:

Hi, thanks for that. I’m fairly sure I tried that, but will follow those instructions tomorrow. Cheers.

I just connected as per the article quoted. I am now getting sound recorded, thank you, but whilst I can hear the audio through the player’s headphones, the recorded sound is either silence or a increasingly loud booming noise. Any suggestions?

Hi, and advice yet please?

Under “Audio Settings” you find the command “Rescan Audio Devices”. Not necessary to quit and restart Audacity.

Thanks, but I tried that a few times with the same result. Stuck now!

To rule out Audacity, you could try Ocenaudio to see if that ‘finds’ the player. If that doesn’t work, it’s either Windows or the hardware. If it does, record with that and edit with Audacity.
