First post! Hope this is the correct category. Title says it. I use audacity for voice work a lot, daily use, fantastic program, love it.
So I have a bunch of macros set up to quickly tune my audio. But right below Tools>Apply Macro, the “Reset Configuration” button is there and I keep misclicking it, like once every 2 weeks, and then i have to reset my preferences back to my personal settings, a very mild inconvenience that I will complain about lol.
Itd be awesome if this button is moved lower in the Tools menu or just moved to the preferences menu. Just somewhere not below “Apply macros” because I want to believe many users use macros frequently, and I want to believe im not the only person who misclicks this. Am i the only one?
That was because “Reset” is clearly a “Tool” that you use - and NOT “Help” where you go to for information and/or advice.
BTW: and by that argument “Diagnostics” could also be considered a “tool” and be move to the Tools menu. - But I don’t think I would bother to do that as there is a counter-argument that Diagnostics gives you information about your system and the app.
Since you are using Macros such a lot, can i suggest that you make a custom shortcut for the Macro Manager command (or/and the Apply Macro command) - that way you wouldn’t have to visit the Tools menu at all to invoke Macros.
And BTW you can set up custom shortcuts for any of your macros - so for your commonly-used macros you might want to do that as well or instead.

Counter point: Tools are things I use when I’m working on a project which fail categorization into Effects, Generators and Analyzers. If things break, I’m looking for help - whether that help comes in form of some article or as an in-app tool doesn’t really matter to me.
A fair point Leo - it certainly isn’t an EGAT - but then neither are: Macro Manager, Apply Macro and Run Benchmark.
One might argue that the macro commands should be in say the Edit menu and benchmarks in the Help.
But at the end of the day, it’s your call these days Leo …
But note that I have given the OP a good workaround for avoiding their accidental use of Reset.
BTW this thread reminds me that it would be useful to have a commands for saving and restoring a users configuration (or even a set of configurations for different use cases), nit just a factory reset. OS experienced users can do this now by manipulating the audacity configurations folder - but that is invisible to most users and not readily “discoverable”.

Yes, those are workspaces which we have planned for audacity4
Thats a great idea actually, i will look into shortcuts for sure, thanks for all the replies. However I will double down and suggest that after clicking reset configuration, a small box for “Are you sure?” would be a nice feature, but I can avoid that all together now.
