The compressor effect in v 3.6.1 has multiple factory presets. The names don’t appear intuitive and I have no idea what any of them do. I can find no explanation or description for any of them. I don’t know how long these presets have been in the compressor menu. Just noticed them after installing the last update. Is there a guide somewhere that explains all these “Factory Presets”?
The person who provided the presets sent this to me:
==Factory presets for the new 3.6 compressor==
*Beefy Master - for use on the master tire if you need to smooth out the attack but add density
Climax Impulse - for very sharp sounds. The tail is losing, and the attack opposite begins to sound bright
*Deep Dive Master - will work perfectly on a master tire, where it will imperceptibly add density without much change of dynamics
*Great Impact - for shots, hits, any sounds, where you want to especially highlight the signal attack while keeping a good tail
*Great Tail - for magic, explosion tails, reverberation tails, etc.
*Presets for working with voice (Fat, Power, Make it Right) - for working with dialogues and podcasts, as well as where the voice needs to be made larger and brighter
*Voice Memos Balance is a preset for working with the sound recorded on the iPhone using Voice Memos. It will raise the volume of quiet sounds a little and create a neutral balance in dynamics
I didn’t publish it in the Manual (actuallly it is there on the effect’s Talk page) as it is incomplete - but this does explain some of them.
Maybe I should go ahead and publish this list on the Compressor page?
Peter.
This helps a great deal! Thank you for your response!!
OK - glad you found that helpful.
On that basis I’ll go ahead and add it to the Compressor page for the 3…6.2 alpha manual (I am not able to edit the manual for the released version, sorry).
Peter
Thank you so much for your question, @fedennis
I did these presets, so feel free to ask me any extra questions if any.
@waxcylinder Yes, good idea to put the description of each preset to the manual.
Here is description about limiter presets:
Master Limiter - will wonderfully and imperceptibly limit the signal level to -1 dB, while maximally preserving the dynamics and sound of the source;
SFX Limiter - will limit the signal level to -1 dB of sharp sounds (will work well together with the Great Impact, Climax Impulse presets) while maintaining the dynamics and sound of the source;
VO Limiter - for dialogues, podcasts and everything else that has to do with voice.
Thank you,
Vlad
More good information! Useful and relevant to what I need. You guys are amazing! Thanks again.
The new compressor looks pretty-standard with the usual settings: Threshold, ratio, attack. release, make-up gain, plus a few “extras”. If you choose a preset you can see the settings.
