Avformat-55.dll

I have Audacity 2.3.2
Audacity sees the mp3 lame library. I have downloaded ffmpeg; I have created a folder in c: even if Audacity is in c:/programmes (lame was put in c:programmes). When I do command prompt and write ffmpeg -version, the files show up.
When I go in preferences, the message is: ffmpeg library is absent. locate avformat-55. I have downloaded avformat and put it in ffmpeg/bin.
So when audacity tries to locate avformat, I write c:/ffmpeg/bin. I then validate, close Audacity, reopen it and ffmpeg is still not found.

I recommend that you follow the instructions on this page to download and run Lame_v3.99.3_for_Windows.exe which will install the special Audacity-version of FFmpeg

EDIT
Oops… This is an old post, but that was totally wrong!!! Download and install ffmpeg-win-2.2.2.exe

LAME is already bundled-in Audacity in 2.3.2 - and it’s for MP3 export.

You need to install the FFmpeg from that download page.

avformat-55.dll

On download and extraction and installation of Lame… There is no accompanying avformat-55.dll file. So there is an issue!

Thanks Mr…Bee

avformat-55.dll has nothing to do with LAME.
avformat-55.dll is part of FFmpeg.

Good point Ta!

If you’re still experiencing this issue, make sure to download the latest version of Audacity and follow the instructions on Installing FFmpeg - Audacity Support
