Audacity Two files Playing issue

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using Audacity for over a year, this is something amazing I found for audio editing purposes in so long.

I started getting an odd issue from yesterday which I never faced. Whenever I open a file, and then open another file, what I see is that Audacity plays the recent file I opened and when I go back to the first file that file can’t be played.

I tried different ways to solve this issue, but couldn’t able to solve it. For example, I uninstalled audacity & reinstalled it again, reset it, reset its preferences to default.

Can any of the team member able to solve this.

Thanks in advance.

Fazal

Audacity will only play the track(s) in one window,
but you can have multiple tracks in one window playing at the same time.

Thank you for getting back on this.

I’ve multiple windows files open in them, but whenever I play the most recent open file, Audacity plays it. However, when I move back to the previous open files, Audacity doesn’t able to play it.

I’m very much frustrated about this issue, I can’t move my task ahead due to this problem

Did you open and play the first file?

You have two Audacity windows open at once, right?

Are the two sound files of the same digital standard? For example, both 44100, 16-bit, Stereo? Audacity won’t tell you this, it doesn’t have Get Info. You have to inspect them outside of Audacity.

What’s the job? What is the task?

Hi Koz, thanks for your time.

I actually work for a company that sells audio books, whenever their narrators deliver the files I verify & make some basic editing to their files to get it ready for publishing.

Since this issue came along I’m not really able to cross verify their files, because I’ve to move side by side from one audio to another in Audacity with multiple videos at once.

I believe their bit rate are same, I’ve tried every possible way but no luck yet.

You need to Stop the audio playing in the first project NOT just Pause - befor Play will work in the second project.

I have just tested this in 3.x and it works fine.

I read that four times and I can’t visualize what you’re doing. The readers submit videos? Or you’re talking about the screen displays?

Since this issue came along

So it used to work under Audacity 2.4.2 and now, under 3.0.2 it doesn’t? What’s the possibility you can step back to 2.4.2? The program is available for download.

If I was doing this I would
a) drag both audio files into the same project window
2) Use the Mute/Solo buttons to toggle between the two tracks when playing.

What he said.

I wondered why you were using two Audacity windows.

Koz

I use 1 window for 1 single file, and have opened multiple windows open for multiple files.

What WC suggested is pretty good, but unfortunately I’m not used to that option yet
