Audacity doesn't pull audio from internal mic, external mic, anything

I’ve used Audacity for years. Just purchased a new MacBook Pro. (Ventura). Moving from 2012 MacBook Pro running Mojave and the Audacity build 2.0.5

Installed Audacity 3.3.3 on my new Mac and I can’t record anything. I can’t get any input signals on anything.

I’m perplexed. NOTHING works. I can bring in my old projects. But I can’t record ANYTHING???

HELP!

To protect your privacy, new computers are generally shipped with recording disabled by default. See: Control access to the microphone on Mac - Apple Support

You are correct! Microphone recording was disabled. I can now record from both internal and external microphones. I cannot, however, get Audacity to recognize virtual signals from Blackhole.

My goal is to record as before f rom internal switching. SoundFlower was what I used on my old computer, but I just cannot install SoundFlower on this new one.

I am a Windows guy and I have no experience with blackhole. Perhaps someone else will chip in.

In the meantime, take a look at this thread: Audacity no longer working

When Soundflower started having troubles, I installed iShowU Audio Capture.

Since then, SoundFlower has come back from the grave and then I lost track. I haven’t actually used iShowU in a while, but it worked last time I did.

I never used SoundFlower Pot or any of the other variations. Tracing the sound pathways through a computer is not for the easily frightened.
