Audacity 3.7 is out now!

Audacity 3.7 has been released!

It features a number of bug fixes which you can read more about here:

Other than that – there’s nothing exciting to see here. Which in itself is exciting! The reason for this very thin release is that we’ve focused most of our attention towards Audacity 4.0 instead! Audacity 4 will feature a complete remake of the UI and is still quite some ways out. We’ll update you on scope and progress on that over the coming months.

MP3 exports: Renamed “Insane” to “Excessive”.

Is the new “Excessive” preset equivalent to LAME’s :
-b 320 --preset insane

When can we expect A4 alpha?

There is already an Audacity 4.0 alpha, but it does not do much yet. It looks like it will be a while before it is usable in any way,

Congratulations!

A post was split to a new topic: Cannot export audio in 3.7

2 posts were split to a new topic: Residue option missing in noise reduction effect

Unfortunately it WON’T RUN on Rocky Linux 9.4 (and therefore Alma Linux, Centos LInux, and RHEL) because it needs a (presumably) newer version of libstdc++:

$ ./!$
./audacity-linux-3.7.0-x64-20.04.AppImage

Is there any reason why that library couldn’t/shouldn’t be included in the Appimage?

Thanks in advance!

Fred

Hello, I am on an older Mac running Sierra 10.12.6 I just downloaded Audacity to hopefully edit some mp3 files, they seem to load okay, when I go to save them as mp3 they say they need a library file (/usr/local/lib/audacity/libmp3lame.dylib) which I cannot locate. Also my newly installed Audacity says it is 2.1. Please advise.

Audacity 2.1 is no longer supported. Please install Audacity 3.7.

Do you know if it works with Mac 10.12.6, chances are slim.

Well, that’s up to you to find out. Download the x86_64 version from Audacity ® | Download for Mac OS and see if it works. As far as we know, anything down to 10.9 should be able to run it (though we haven’t tested such old versions of Mac in a long time).

Having had no responses to my issue (see above) with the Appimage not working on Rocky Linux 9.4, I downloaded source and compiled my own native executable. had almost no trouble doing it.

however, most of the effects don’t work, in fact the program appears to crash whenever I try to run one of them.

So, my joy at having a working Audacity quickly faded.

Can anyone offer hints as to why that might be the situation?

Thanks in advance!

Fred

and this happens when I try to use, e.g., Normalize from the effects/volume menu:

Aborted (core dumped)

And, all of the several other effects I tested give similar results.

where are my precious previous equalizer presets? and why the program updated itself without asking the user?

Before I install Audacity 3.7, should I first uninstall
Audacity 2.1? If so, is there a procedure. thanks

How to revert this auto-update? There should be a some kind of update log or something

Install the previous version over the top.
Older Audacity versions are available from GitHub or from FossHub

Your new version is corrupting all my projects!!! How is this possible? I’e tried recovering them using the audacity-project-tools to no avail. I previously had 3.4.2 and then 3.6.0 and that’s when the first issue occurred. Now, after saving all my projects with 3.6.0 and now using 3.7.0 the issue arose again! This is causing me a great deal of pain… Please help me recover my projects somehow. I’m willing to cooperate with you all the way to fix this. I’m sure I’m not the only one facing this issue. It’s about error 101, Audacity failed to read from a file.

Looking forward to hearing from you asap.
