Audacity 3.6 is out now!

The new compressor and limiter were a terrible idea as a replacement. They can be useful but have broke many people’s presets and have lost several functions of the old ones. It is an absolute deal breaker for me. Rolling back and staying put with an older version and just have to hope it gets straightened out.

I am afraid that I, too, have rolled back due to the issues with compressor and limiter and the number of crashes I am encountering. Time to wait for a more stable issue

Audacity’s latest version when the PC black screen a crash log comes up. It royally pissed me off because I left my Heritage Chart to record during the Sport and it crash logged to the black screen instead of kept going like it should do.

Why did you let this unstable beta version to be released guys. I now could be waiting for days for the good Heritage Charts own Mixcloud version or have to get a stepdown in sound quality on distorted Regency Radio because Legacy Chart is now on Pay Per Catch-Up.

Sorry if I seem annoyed but that was because I am annoyed at this rubbish version. As soon as screen saver came on crash log no carrying on.

I want to leave it and then it staying on like the behavior of the software normally on a long show.

This version should have never have been allowed without testing it on leaving it to record for 2 hours without touhing the mouse with no crashlogs.

It’s a legit problem as well it happened when I had left it during my daily walk just in case I miss the start.

It happened again when I did it during the sport. This shouldn’t be happening a completely unstable mess I want to revert but bet I can’t even do that because AI hiss removal has updated to 3.6.

I expect Audacity to handle a recording. Last version at least when it black screened you might get some popping or farting or even some gaps but at least it’s still running on this it’s just crash log impending recording loss of doomsday it’s completely destroyed nothing can be done about it if you don’t reach the mouse in time.

Ok the first time Norton 360 interrupted as well as the black screen sso it’s not fair to count that one as the version being dodgy.

But this one where I timed it to every 10 laps on Formula one racing and moved the mouse to be sure it wasn’t blacks screen and it was only the final set of 10 where the final lap is a bit slower that it timed out even if it was only a couple of seconds it was enough to cut off enough of the show for the footage to be useless not even worth a continue.

I’m frustrated with 3.6 proper that I had to go all out in rage and anger so it gets fixed in a single day to not crash log on a screen saver or black screen.

Ok, 3.4.0 or whatever version it was was probably the worst version ever produced total crap not loading the FFMPEG but this is a second place worst ever beta state release which shouldn’t have seen the light of day as it can’t handle screen savers coming on and if you don’t move the mouse 1 second within time you are doomed you lost your show until a very late Mixcloud and a on time but really distorted quality Regency on demand copy.

But it’s 2 dud versions in 6 months guys that’s becoming a bad track record for bad versions.

I can still make my own radio so it’s a step above 3.4.0 but I can’t record my own catchup of shows that the wait is painful for a good quality on demand on it.

A different issue and that is it worked perfect when I used the mouse all the time doing other things on Legacy Chart it only seems to be screensaver back screens and mouse locks and when you press enter for your screen back on it’s a crash log not a carrying on.

But the behaviour recording a 2 hour show seems to be correct when you are doing something which is bad when you want something to record perfectly to listen to when you are back from being busy.

Small UI question, it seems like the line for low-volume noise has gotten noticably thinner in the new version. The little bumps at 18:43.5 and 18:45.5 represent the end of trailing noise I need to eliminate, but they’re pretty hard to see; previously they were much thicker, which made my job a lot easier. Is there a setting for this?

Thanks for the fixes. The issues I’m having with my regular use is:

As mentioned above in my comment, when Sync-Lock is on and I highlight one track, it highlights all the other tracks in the same white solid highlight so I can’t see which track is highlighted unless I remember it - the faint clocks pattern that used to appear on the other tracks is gone.
When I use Audio Clips-Join with short cut it turns the whole track back to the basic blue colour, but I use different colours for different tracks, so I have to go and change it back again, and this is taking one or two attempts because I have to select colour 1, then the colour I want, because it thinks it’s already on the colour I want. So there’s something up with the track colours.
I’m finding the little white squares harder to grab when adjusting the levels using the multi-tool, have to zoom right in.
Not sure if it’s me, but I used to use the limiter to lop off the excessively high bits of audio, now when I use that it makes the whole track a lot louder.

So a couple weeks ago I downloaded an update for Audacity and it made it so I can’t skip back tapping the arrow keys further than where the cursor, I guess it’s what you would say, is put. It has been the worst thing ever. It has added so much time to my editing. I hate it so much. I didn’t have any idea why audacity would do this. Is it fixed on the newest update?
I hate having to reset where the cursor is to be able to go back when before I could just tap the arrows to go back as far as I choose.

Agree 100%. Who thought it was a great idea to replace the compressor with one that is incompatible with the old one? By all means introduce a new one ALONGSIDE the old one, but you’ve just totally broken Audacity for me, and lost me hours of time trying (and failing) to re-create presets and macros. I think the new compressor doesn’t allow peak compression. That’s a deal-breaker for me. Reverted to 3.5.1. Hopefully sense prevails.

I’ve updated audacity 3.6.1 but it’s crashing and does not permit to use openvino!
AND IT DOES NOT SEND CRASH REPORTS!

### Bug description Many times now I have encountered failure to send an Audaci…ty error report, the ET-phone-home dialog, when I click the **Send** button. This has worked for me in the past - it is only in recent times that this seems to be happening. Does the .1 edition fix the issue I talked about whilst it’s recording for 2 straight hours and screensaver comes on it gives a crash log and a loss of my archival recording of Heritage Chart the other day.

That really drove me mad and irate I really don’t want it happening again. I want it recording when norton comes up and sleep mode comes in even if it does the popping sometimes it did before when it did so at least that was normalish behavior and let me record in a PC Screensaver Sleep Mode.

After I update into 3.6.1 release, the progress bar or seek bar looks flashy and irritating. I have upload a short video with no sound, to show you how does the seek bar look like during playback or pause. It happened after I update to 3.6.1 release.

I came straight to the forms after the update… they’re awful all my macros and presets are broken and I haven’t been able to get the same quality in sound back and I’m mid project.

Being able to see the bitrate really important for radio industry folk - some of the playout systems play badly if everything isn’t either 44.1 or 48!

Note that the sample rate in the track never is used for what you export, only the sample rate in the export window itself is. If you need to conform a track, doing so inside the project is an unnecessary step.

The reason I want to see the bitrate for individual tracks is not related to the export rate though.
As I explained in my original post, for some reasons the source files I received for different tracks may not be of the same bitrate, so it’s preferrable to have an easy way (like in previous version) to quickly check the bitrate of each track so that I can convert all the tracks to the same bitrate if necessary, as some of the effects (e.g. noise reduction) cannot be applied to multiple tracks on the fly if they’re not of the same bitrate.

I’m grateful that the software is still being updated, but I wish the things that are removed would be turned into options instead.
I also work with files with different sampling rates, so it was really useful to be able to see it in each track.
