Audacity 3.4 is out now!

Unfortunately yes.

Thanks for the new release. I have an unusual setup where I have 64 bit and 32 bit both installed, as I need to use 32 bit effects that won’t run in the 64 bit version. To enable this, once installed, I rename Audacity.exe to Audacity32.exe. This has always worked previously. With this release, however, after renaming and running Audacity32.exe it refuses to load a number of modules, which disable a number of features. I have had to revert to previous version to continue to use the 32 bit version.

I am not sure what could be the rationale for such a feature. However, I am into a disturbing Bug after this. Once a clip is created, I can not copy inside into that clip or clips before it. Only the last track of the clip allows paste.

Other times, I get the message: ā€œThere is not enough room available to pasteā€¦ā€

You may want to enable ā€œEditing clips can move other clipsā€ from Preferences > Track behaviors

Exactly, having the same problem.

Here’s the vid I found with a temp fix til they work out that bug. It blows for audiobook recording, but I believe one can export the file back to what you need, you just can’t record at that level. It’s basically switching your Default Sample Format bit rate to 32-bit float. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fd-zwhoeQWk Good luck!

I have tried 3.4 and it does NOT work. The menu for locating any mp3 is now ambiguous. I made changes to a mp3 and it does NOT save. After clicking save, 3.4 does NOT offer the tag screen and does NOT update my file. I want to revert back to my previous version and I am unable to source it. Please help and advise how I gat get out of 3.4 and have my previous version back.

I also want to revert back to the previous version, but when I log into Audacity, I am only offered V3.4. Kindly help me.

How to go back to a previous version has often be posted here in the last days.

You can download the previous version from here.

And it does NOT like recording in 24-bit… Nope, not 1 bit

Hey there! I just upgraded Audacity. In the new version, if I drag two files onto the project, click ā€œSoloā€ next to one and then click ā€œSoloā€ next to the other, ā€œSoloā€ will remain selected on both tracks and both tracks will play. If I want to go back to playing a single track, I need to manually un-select ā€œSoloā€ on every track except for one. ā€œMuteā€ will also not work until I do this.

This is contrary to my intuitive understanding of what these buttons should do (it was good before). Is there a straightforward way to mute every track except one, regardless of the previous state of the project?

You can change it in Preferences → Track Behaviors

Neither can I - clip boundaries are appearing when I paste within a clip, which didn’t happen before. A workaround is to select the entire clip and Edit > Audio Clips > Join.

Furthermore, I’ve found I can join clips for an entire track at once, so for me it’s a net gain. Thanks to the developers!

You can do that in older versions of Audacity:

  1. Select the entire track (or multiple tracks)
  2. ā€œEdit menu > Audio Clips > Joinā€

or if you have the ā€œFullā€ set of keyboard shortcuts enabled:

  1. Select the entire track (or multiple tracks)
  2. ā€œCtrl + Jā€

Any ETA on 3.4.1?

I discovered that I was upgraded to 3.4.0 yesterday when I tried to prepare an audio file for a weekly blog. The product is unable to either open or import a template I’ve used for over a year. When will that be fixed?
Also, the FFMpeg plugin isn’t working. I can install it but Audacity can’t find it. I’ve installed HD Video Converter Factory to extract the audio from an MPG4 file. How much longer till that issue is resolved? I’m running Win 11 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron, and I keep pretty current with fixes and patches.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Guys, I appreciate everything you do on this piece of software but what were you smoking with this release. I went to do my weekly project and felt like my brain was melting when tracks were being turned into stereo and mono and double mono.

This update was so bad that I’ve done something I’ve never done before - I actually reverted back to a previous version because it’s totally unusable for my purposes using year old templates that have worked fine previously. Please look into what’s going on here unless I’m too smooth brained to understand the high IQ reasoning for this stereo/mono shifting.
