Good to hear about the ‘Beats and measures grid’! It really looks good and useful on the instruction video. I wish it had worked as well in reality . . . no grid shows on my Audacity screen.
Hello iBenny, that’s a comfort . . . sort of. Better yet would be if the Audacity team had made their product on a par with the boasting instruction video.
If I remember correctly there used to be a user-coded (Audacity is after all open-source) add-on years ago when I asked for just such a utility here as I was very much into creating loops back then and had trouble getting the timing just right.
It appears to be a matter of milli- if not microseconds to getting it to sound just right w/o ‘hiccups’. It took hours of trial-and-error to hit the mark. Maybe I should have tried to get that then.
But then over all Audacity is a very good tool for the price and I haven’t contributed diddly, so who am I to belly-ache?
There seems to be no ‘Insert Silence’ function in Audacity 3.4.2 like there used to be in earlier versions. 'Guess it’s time to downgrade from the ‘New And Improved’ version 3.4.2. I never did like it anyway.
Also, I don’t have a microphone and always work with existing sound files.

I have Generate > Silence in my 3.4.2 on W10
If I insert empty space before the playing begins, then select Beats and Measures , will that work?
Not if you generate silence at the beginning, as the silence is audio (albeit silent). But if you click&drag in the track’s Clip-handle drag-bar then you’ll get beats&Bards graphics before the track starts:

Regarding that ‘advice’ given me I think of what Charles Darwin is quoted as saying: “Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.”
