Audacity 2.3.0 Mac help icons (?) and Help menu not working

Mac OS Mohave 10.14.2

If I go to, for example, Effect > Amplify and decide I want to find out more about this effect by clicking on the ?, I am simply taken to whatever page is already open in my browser. I think this is meant to take me to the documentation file for that effect.

Going to the Help menu and selecting Quick Help or Manual has the same effect.

I am aware that there are functioning links to Tips, Tutorial, and Manual at the top of this page. I’m just letting you know about this.

I cannot reproduce this on my MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.1.4.2 - not on the released 2.3.0 nor on the alpha test build for the upcoming 2.3.1

What happens if you don’t have any browser pages open and then click ion the “?” help button in Amplify ?

WC

If I don’t have any browser tabs open, clicking the ? and Help menu items brings me to the appropriate pages on your site. But I, and probably most people, have browser tabs open pretty much all of the time.

FWIW, I am also on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, early 2015).

Me too - though mine is about a year younger

I just tested again and either with no browser open or browser already open on a non-Audacity page I still get diected successfully to the Manual’s Amplify page when i ujse tyhe “?” help button in the Amplify effect - so I’m totally puzzled and baffled …

BTW the browser I’m using is the Safari that is natively provided on my Mac

Try copy and pasting this link into your browser:
file:///Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/help/manual/man/chirp.html

If the “Chirp” page of the manual does not open, then you don’t have the manual properly installed.
