3.6.1 CRASHING all the time!

Been using Audacity for years.
3.6.1 fine for a few days now suddenly crashing during recording within a few minutes!! yes tried reinstall, reboot, even (from forum advice) manually clearing out Session data to no avail . HELP please going NUTS!!!
Keep getting error message EXCEPTION ACCESS VIOLATION READ

This is a regression bug in 3.6.1 - Muse think they have fixed it for the soon to be upcoming 3.6.2 release.

It seems to happen if you record into an un-saved project, that is using Audacity’s temporary file space. So before you start recording save the project and ten record - you can delete the project later if you no longer need it.

Peter.

Many thanks Peter! This makes sense.
Will try your suggestion when next at home in a few days
Will post result .
So glad it wasn’t just me noticing this anomalous behaviour.
Many thanks for your help!

That may be not an application error, but one of a mishandling of Windows OS. I have solved most such problems of “files not opening or not responding to our commands”, correcting their permissions in their Property dialogs; opening them, clicking on the Security tag and checking who are the users allowed to use them; include our user and/or Administrator’s names through the Edit button; and enabling, on the field below, what they may do therein; and, on the Advanced button, check who is the proprietor of the file, and change it if that is the case. This routine demands much attention and patience, but once we learn how to perform it, the files end up smoothingly opening and/or responding to our commands.
In your specific case, check also whether you are allowed by Permissions to do operations in the destination folder you chose.

This bug looks to have been fixed for the soon to be releases 3.6.2

Hi Peter
TOTAL DISASTER!!!
3.6.2 failed to load … tried to delete a file but “denied access”
tried to delete 3.6.1 manually . But computer says there are TWO versions odf audacity running! However i cannot now open ANY VERSION OF AUDACITY!!!
I didn’t like the download notes for 3.6.2 with the phrase " will try to delete … " not really reassuring!!

HELP!!
Elliot

Failed to load from the download-site, or failed to open when you double-clicked it?

This is most probably an issue of your comuter / operating system.

  • Do you have the right to install / remove software?
  • How did you try to uninstall / remove

How did you try to do this?

A restart would be a good idea in many situations - especially if some software behaves not as expected.

When I read through your posts here, I think your operating system is somehow broken. Try to refresh it - I think Windows has a function allowing this. If you are not familiar with how to do it, get professional help.

Hi Mac Christian
Thanks for comments!
Yes the exe downloaded but failed in the install. Got to a state where an error message said i had two versions of audacity. I tried to delete 3.6.1 manually - the usual way via “START”. Then found i couldnt open any version of Audacity. Rebooted and to my surprise the 3.6.1 reappeared. Not working of course … kept stalling after a few minutes of record.
HOWEVER ( MESSAGE TO PETER) I have followed Peters earlier suggestion and only recorded into a previously saved file. I have managed to record contiuously for hours by following this advice. I record onto a previously recorder file, transfer it, then wipe the file (NOT DELETE IT) and record onto this saved file again and it works.! Thanks Peter!
