3.4, no voice recording, loud distorted noise on playback

Continuing the discussion from Audacity 3.4 is out now!:

Hi There. Was using 3.3.3 for voice acting, worked fine. Just dowloaded this new 3.4 version. Turned red when I pressed recording button. Playback was very loud and distorted. Any advice?
