2.0 isn't letting me convert to mp3

I am using Beringer 802 and FCA202 Firewire Controller; Was using Audacity with no problem, til I loaded 2.x on my Windows7 system. I it won’t let me export to MP3. Says that 4100/16 can’t be converted to MP3. Yes, I already loaded LAME. I’ve done EVERYTHING. It doesn’t make sense, why now I get a pop up to use 24 bit. Point is - this new version is NOT working. I have tried every combination of sample rates, but quality is warbled when I try to upload my projects to various voice services that were uploading perfectly prior to this 2.0 version. Any help is appreciated.

The current version of Audacity is 2.0.6
Please ensure that you are using the current version (look in “Help > About Audacity” to find the full version number).

What is the actual error message?
What MP3 settings are you using?

Ok I am running Window 7 32bit and been doing Vox work for years on beringer firewire f-controller. Moved to usb with a Avid interface. That all said, I have been using audacity from the start. No real problems until I decided to upgrade to 2.06 from whatever version. It does not allow me to export to MP3! Telling me that 44100/16 bit will not convert to an MP3. What the heck is the issue? Oh, yes I down loaded Lame so i don’t think it is that issue. I have reinstalled audacity three times lame three times. any help would be appreciated before I just go use wavelength or protocols or whatever

Please be aware that Audacity does not explicitly support Avid interfaces. Those are mainly meant for working with ProTools. This isn’t likely to be anything to do with your MP3 issue, though.

I would guess your issue is that you are seeing this, correct?

If so, and you want to export MP3 at less than 32 kbps bit rate, you will need to accept the above dialogue and export at 24000 Hz sample rate. The maximum sample rate in the MP3 specification for 8 kbps, 16 kbps and 24 kbps bit rates is 24000 Hz, as you can see from the table below:

MPEG-1 layer III sample frequencies (kHz): 32 48 44.1:
bit rates (kbps): 32 40 48 56 64 80 96 112 128 160 192 224 256 320

MPEG-2 layer III sample frequencies (kHz): 16 24 22.05:
bit rates (kbps): 8 16 24 32 40 48 56 64 80 96 112 128 144 160

MPEG-2.5 layer III sample frequencies (kHz): 8 12 11.025:
bit rates (kbps): 8 16 24 32 40 48 56 64 80 96 112 128 144 160

Alternatively if you want 44100 Hz sample rate for the application playing the MP3, change the MP3 export bit rate to 32 kbps or higher. You can change the export bit rate by clicking the Options… button in the dialogue where you type the MP3 file name.

Correct, AVID is not the issue. All that does is allows me to input my audio to digital with whatever software. Adobe Audition works fine. NCH’s WavePad works fine.
But importing to Still not working. I’m using 2.06. I have LAME installed. Prior to 2.06, i was importing to both wav and mp3 with no problems. Unless I’m missing something w/ my own equipment, but it wouldn’t work fine with other software and all of a sudden not with the new Audacity. So, when I reconfigured to 32 bit (floating) am I still good with setting to 44.1hz?

What do you mean by “importing to WAV and MP3”? LAME is not required for importing MP3. Importing is when you bring a file into Audacity.

Are you talking about writing an MP3 file (exporting it then saving the MP3 to your computer)?

A sample rate of “44.1 Hz” would be inaudible to most humans.

There is no dialogue like that in Audacity except for the one I already mentioned:

If that is the dialogue you see, please read my previous post in this thread carefully: 2.0 isn't letting me convert to mp3 - #4 by Gale_Andrews If you want to export MP3 at 44100 Hz, use the “Options…” button when you export MP3 to set a bit rate of 32 kbps or higher. Here:

Then in the window that appears when you press “Options…”, set the export MP3 settings like this:

That 32 kbps MP3 export bit rate is nothing to do with 32-bit float “Default Sample Format” in Quality Preferences. Changing that to 32-bit float is the best choice for ensuring the quality of your audio edits, but it will not solve your specific issue if you are seeing the “Invalid Sample Rate” dialogue. If you are seeing that dialogue, the MP3 export bit rate is what you have to change.
