Zoom in and out where the mouse point

Audacity 4 still feel like a 20 years old software without this.
The scroll wheel has virtually no use case most of the time. It scroll vertically but only when the project is full of vertical tracks.

Then zooming with Ctrl-scroll is awkward because we zoom in-out more than we scroll up-down.

The solution is to zoom in and out where the mouse is. This way you can do both in one action with only one button. Super natural and intuitive. Like zooming in a picture. Do it please.

No, the solution here is to stop barking orders like someone owes you something. Audacity is FREE software, and this forum is mostly for users to attempt to help each other.

Folks who work on multi-track projects might scroll up-down more than they do horizontal zooming, and prefer the current arrangement.
This is a “mouse binding” and there is no preference for those, but it sounds like there might be a case for users to customize mouse bindings.

By “multi-track” you mean more than 10 tracks ? Because I work mostly with sfx and ambients, and it is also multi-track. But usually less than 10. (so no vertical scroll) And since Audacity is not a music compositor, I can guess most people don’t go deeper than 10 tracks for their little projects. And now that audacity 4 allow non destructive clips override on the same track, it means even less need for more tracks.

It was an enthusiastic call to the sky. A prayer. (And I said please.) I can only help by testing ideas and why they look good to me.

As I said, scroll to zoom in and out where the pointer is could stop the debate if it should go vertical or horizontal by doing both and free one hand. I don’t see why it should not be that way.
